YouTube doesn’t let you know how many videos are on it at any moment, and there’s a good reason for that. Maybe surprisingly, in 2019, every minute 500+ hours of content is uploaded on YouTube. That would mean every day 82.2 years of content is uploaded a day on Youtube.
New Jersey native, David Suen calculated approximately 14.6 billion videos were on Youtube as of June 27, 2020. Shout out to David for working the math. You can see his post explaining the math on Quora here. But the thing is, I’m writing this article about a month after that post, and you’re likely reading this after another few hundreds of years have been added. So your guess is good as mine. Just remember it’s in the billions.

We may not know exactly how many videos are on YouTube, but we know which one’s most popular. “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi featuring Daddy Yankee is the most viewed video on YouTube with over 6.7 billion views as of June 2020.
Despacito is a Raggaeton, Latin pop song recorded and released in 2019 on Luis Fonsi’s Album, Vida. The title means “slowly,” but it rose to the top quickly reaching 2 billion and 2.5 billion views faster than any video in YouTube’s history. There is not native method for downloading videos from Youtube. If you’re interested, three ways to download videos include:
- Use a web based downloader like KEEPVid.
- Install Program like jdownloader2.
- Download a python script called YouTube-dl.
I’ve listed the options in order of increasing difficulty. So the plus side of using the more difficult methods is fewer ads, and greater control over your download. The easier download methods offer fewer steps and are more intuitive to use. I’ll include tutorials for using all three in a later post.

If you don’t have a gmail account, that’s okay too. You just have to sign in using your preferred email and create a YouTube account. After you’ve done that, you can upload videos directly from your phone or computer.
